Cowboy and Indian Cake

The kids' school had a 25 year anniversary and had a week of partying and the theme was cowboys and Indians.  There was a cake baking competition, which both insisted on entering.  They had numerous exciting things on the go at school including riding on a mechanical bull, horse riding, roasting marshmallows and making s'mores, making of bows and arrows, a sport day and a field trip to Toverland.  Wow, it was a crazy week.  Here are the cakes...

Making dinosaur fossils with salt dough

Tiger was really sick yesterday with vomiting and high fever.  Today he has bounced back and is back to his normal busy self.  Hard to believe.  I kept him off school today thinking he couldn't possibly be better.  Cricket is also home as it is a home day for him and mommy.  We have made pancakes as everyone is so tired of eating toast and cereal for breakfast and we have been making some dinosaur fossils.  Thanks to "Andy's Dinosaur Adventures" on CBeebies I now know far more than I ever wanted to about dinosaurs.  They wait all day for 5.30pm and then rush to the tv to watch.  First there is a hurried assembling of backpacks and hats and other strange additions to the outfits, eg. long socks over trousers, batman belts, sunglasses, etc.  Basically everything a dinosaur adventurer could possibly need.  One day I had a look in the back packs and there were electric toothbrushes, toothpaste, bottles of water, snacks and a large amount of random toys.  I mean, who knows when Andy will need a transformer to get back to the museum.  Here are some pics of them dressed up and also some of the fossil making.

Easter Egg dyeing

Easter is almost upon us.  Tiger is quite badly ill with flu and it has been difficult juggling work and having time off with him.  Andy had to cancel a day of meetings in Denmark and rush back through the night to have a day with him at home whilst I worked.  Today, luckily was a home day for me.  I am hoping against hope that we will all be well for our mini-holiday in the UK for Easter.  The boys are excited by the trip ...in the car and under the channel on a train etc.  I am starting to think about padkos (Food for the road in Afrikaans) and madly getting all the washing done.  Really looking forward to seeing good friends and maybe, if I am lucky, a spot of English shopping.

Because we will be away for Easter we did some egg dyeing on the weekend.  The kids really loved it and Andy had to remove himself from the immediate area due to high stress (egg dye possible on the floor).  Christian was tucking into the hard boiled eggs like crazy - egg shells and egg were flying everywhere.  It's amazing we ended up having anything to dye and draw on.

The egg eating culprit hiding his face away.

I think they came out quite pretty.

Walks in the Woods

We had an autumn walk in the Mastbos woods with a tea picnic of biscuits and hot chocolate.  Here are the pictures which say it all....no need to say a thing.
