Cricket's Birthday

Cricket turned four in May and we had a "Superhero" picnic in the Mastbos.  We had beautiful weather and the kids were very excited to be dressed up in their superhero outfits...Cricket was spiderman and Tiger was Batman.  Their friends were all suitably attired with underpants over tights and capes flying...even one of the moms had tights and underpants on...too funny and unfortunately I did not get that on film because sanity prevailed and she decided to change.  It was a lovely time...flasks of tea and coffee, large bottles of ranja for the kids, a batman cake, home made sausage rolls, sandwiches and scones with cream and jam made by the lovely Mrs B.

Just chilling with the boys.

A melty cake...I am not the best at cake baking and especially at making elaborate kid's cakes.  The kids were super excited that it was batman and immediately there were at least 6 small people hanging on me and screaming for batman's head.  Hey, you don't have to do anything fancy to please kids that is for sure.

Did you know that batman also looks good in shorts?

Domburg Beach Day

We also celebrated Cricket's birthday with a bacon and egg breakfast on the Saturday and a trip down to the coast.  The breakfast was had outside in the garden and under blankets as it was a fairly chilly day.  I am not sure why we don't breakfast outside more often...it really was fab.  we then drove down to Domburg which is about an hour away.  It was variable on the beach, one minute warm and the next freezing.  It was, as ever, lovely to be down there though.  This has to be my favourite beach in zeeland.  I like the fact that there is a restuarant there which is open even on sundays, plenty of toilets and the beach itself is easy to access with plenty of parking - although in the heat of summer I reckon parking could be an issue.  If it is slightly off season then there is plenty.  a short trip over a sand dune and you are on the beach.  The beaches are sandy (i really hate pebble beaches) and there are plenty of shells for collecting.

Aardbeien Terras Rijsbergen

We visited the lovely Aardbeien Terras in Rijsbergen.  We went when it was really early in the season and there were no strawberries for picking yet, but still a lovely outing.  We could still buy strawberries and order strawberry tart to have with tea outside.

The indoor play area which was just as well as we had some rain.

Volcano Craft

The boys made a lovely papermache volcano today.  This was GREAT!

We just used a juice bottle that wasn't too big, scrunched newspaper all around the base and sticky tape it to the bottle.  Then we made a flour and water mixture, which had consistency of glue and tore strips of newspaper for dipping and plastering all over the volcano.  We waited for it to dry and then painted it.  We still have to do the eruption...pics to follow.
